The Harbortown Bobber foregoes all the on-camera antics and drama that has kept American Chopper on TV for the last seven years. Which is a good thing. What The Harbortown Bobber lacks in sensationalism, it makes up for in realism. It gets back to the grass-roots of custom bike building as it chronicles the restoration and rebirth of Scott Di Lalla’s 1969 Triumph. What started as a rusty frame and a 1971 Bonneville 650 engine in a sad state of disrepair evolves into a rip-snortin’ bobber any moto enthusiast would be proud to ride. It is a true bobber, pieced together in different stages by garage builders who handcraft almost every piece of the bike. The Triumph is the star of the documentary, but it is the unique individuals involved in its restoration that carry the storyline. The Harbortown Bobber captures the way bike-building culture gets passed down from generation to generation and keeps it from becoming a dying art. Alright, so the motorcycle dies about halfway through the movie, and it’s about a Marxist revolutionary, and it came out in 2004… But The Motorcycle Diaries was the best motorcycle film I watched this year. The film chronicles young medical students Eernesto Guevera de la Serna and his friend Alberto Granado, who in 1952 embark on a 5000-mile motorcycle journey. Leaving their sheltered Argentinian lives the duo ride through South America aboard Granado’s dilapidated Norton 500. The journey proves life-changing for the two men, and for the world as a whole, as the experiences would radicalize the young Guevera into the Cuban revolutionary Che. Beautifully shot and acted, The Motorcycle Diaries is a thoughtful and engaging bio pic on one of the most quixotic historical figures of the 20th century. Red Bull FIM Motocross of Nations 2010 captures all the highlights of Team USA’s amazing come from behind victory. Including rider interviews and full recap of all three races, the DVD explores each of the major teams at the 64th MX of Nations and features a lap at the Lakewood, Colorado circuit with Josh Coppins carrying a helmet-mounted camera. As I diehard SX fan I have to say that Bar to Bar 2010 is a complete waste of money. Why they think SX fans are more interested in the sideshow then the actual races is beyond me. While every other season review (SBK, MotoGP, AMA MX, FIM MX) are filling there dvds to the brim with action, each year the Bar To Bar dvds is putting in less action and more talking. As short as SX races are they could fix every complete main of a season on the 2 DVDs. Yet what we get is about as much footage of actual racing as you'd see on ESPN or Speed vision race report. Pretty pathetic. 2010 is the last Bar To Bar I'm purchasing until they cut down on the talking and atmosphere content and put the racing as the primary focus
