One of the fastest growing sports among Youth under the age of 18 is Motocross and just like advanced Motocross,Safety Gear is the most important thing young riders and their parents should concern themselves with. Most kids play sports for the fun of it so make sure you do not take away from the fun of it all by providing proper protection with the complete and correct motocross gear for your young rider. Safety is fundamental to having fun when it comes to extreme sports even during practices.
Youth motocross requires the same pieces of safety gear as the advanced motocross. The motocross helmet is the most important piece of gear that a junior rider must wear. The helmet protects the rider from serious head injuries with a thick combination of layers. A full-face helmet is the most advisable type you can get especially for youth motocross racers. Expect that this will cost much compared to open-faced helmets but quality is not something you should easily pass off at this point. Every precautionary measure is most definitely worth your while.
On top of the safety features of a helmet, it also keeps the rider in a comfortable state while riding since it deters debris and dusts. When you choose a helmet for your kid, put a premium on getting the right fit which is comfortably snug. Having a loose helmet in youth motocross is just asking for trouble. This is a very bad idea and you may just be doing more harm than good when accidents happen. Even though kids at this age are experiencing growth spurts, it would still be wise to invest in the right fit. You would also want to check the helmet’s effectiveness by checking for the stickers from DOT or SNELL or ANSI at the back of the helmet.
The proper riding gear also includes goggles, long-sleeved jersey, pants, gloves and boots. For beginners of youth motocross, top of the line motocross gear need not be necessary yet except for the helmet. But make sure that the basics are covered like long-sleeved sweatshirts, jeans, riding goggles, gloves and boots that come up over the ankles. As your kid advances in the sport, add knee guards, chest protector, elbow guards, wrist guards, neck guards and youth motocross regulation pants, boots, gloves and goggles. Most items you can try buying from other young riders who have outgrown their gear except for motocross helmets. Second-hand helmets, although cheaper, may have gone through hard knocks from previous use yet show no apparent damage.
