The championships in Europe this weekend has been filled,the Rockstar Teka Suzuki World MX1 team may have enjoyed a free weekend away from their FIM MX1 Motocross World Championship commitments – that will shortly see back-to-back visits to Germany, Latvia and Sweden – but they used the break effectively to notch victories on the factory RM-Z450WS in Germany and Belgium.
Clement Desalle took both motos in front of a sizeable 15,000 crowd at the popular and natural Aichwald circuit for the third round of the ADAC Masters German national series. The 2010 Portuguese Grand Prix winner was undisputed with a pair of holeshots and runaway successes. In Belgium Steve Ramon went 2-1 for overall glory at Kester for the second event of the Belgian Championship.
“A win and no crashes, so it was a good meeting!” said Desalle after his domination, and who now fronts the series by two points despite missing the second meeting of eight. “I had some nice starts and could ride my lines. I enjoyed being out there because it was easy to find traction and be fast. The track was old-school motocross style and different to what we find in the World Championship; I really liked it for that.”
In the same event, Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2’s Ken Roczen guided his RM-Z250 against the bigger machines to third and seventh in the two motos in what was very much a warm-up for the 16 year old’s home GP at Teutschenthal next week; where he celebrated his first career win in 2009. Arnaud Tonus was ninth and 17th while Larissa Papenmeier became the first lady to qualify for the Youngster Cup and captured plenty of attention among her male peers by seizing the holeshot.
Over in Belgium and at Kester, Steve Ramon faced numerous Grand Prix peers: The 30 year old enjoyed a close duel with Davide Guarneri in the first moto to seal second place; the Italian winning by less than two seconds. In the second 30 minute and 2-lap sprint, Ramon decimated the field from the first lap. The win represented his third moto chequered flag from four and gives him a 12-point gap over Guarneri in the series.
“It was a good day and the track was a pleasure to ride,” he said. “It had been raining in the days before so there was a lot of grip without it being too muddy. I had some good starts and with the first one I was able to fight with Leok and Guarneri until Leok made a mistake and there were only two of us at the front. I was looking for places to pass and it was good racing because we were only two or three seconds between us but Guarneri was riding well. I took the lead on the first lap in the second moto and pushed forward. I had to stay focussed and concentrate because the track was getting rougher with some ruts but I controlled the gap.”
The Grand Prix of Germany at Teutschenthal lays ahead for the Rockstar Teka Suzuki crew and the Teka Suzuki Europe World MX2 group next weekend and the start of their busy FIM stint prior to the summer hiatus
