David Knight leading in poland
David Knight has increased his lead at the head of the Enduro 3 world championship to 23 points following a mixed weekend at the GP of Poland, round four of the ’10 EWC series. With his closest championship rival Christophe Nambotin failing to finish the opening day’s competition David went on to claim his fifth day win of the season so far, placing ahead of team-mate Simone Albergoni and Germany’s Marcus Kehr.
20 seconds ahead at the end of the opening day Knight topped seven of the days 11 special tests, despite not being 100 per cent satisfied with his riding on either the enduro or motocross tests. On day two David dominated the Extreme test, as he had on day one, but was again unable to perform as he wanted on the motocross and enduro tests. Trying to improve his performances he fell on the day’s final test and ended up placing third. Although frustrated at having not finished higher David is now comfortably ahead in the E3 championship standings as the series now moves past the mid-way point.
Knighter’s next event will be the fifth round of the Enduro World Championship, which takes place in Slovakia on June 19/20.
David Knight: ‘It’s been a strange race for me. I’ve come away with a much bigger leads in the Enduro 3 championship, but I didn’t ride well all weekend. I don’t know why, and I couldn’t work out what I was doing wrong during the event, but I just couldn’t ride like I wanted to. The first day ended well with me winning, but I was lucky Christophe had some problems because he was really fast. The second day was really frustrating. No matter what I tried I just couldn’t get the times I wanted. I tried all sort – I tried riding smoother, harder, more aggressively – but nothing seemed to work. I guess that I should be pleased that I’m more than 20 points ahead in the championship, but it’s been a very frustrating event. I like riding in sand, and normally go well, but I’ve not been happy with my riding.’
