The future and also a little about the past of Max Anstie

Always positive and friendly we caught up with  Max Anstie a week ago and asked him about  the future and also a little about the past. The Monster Energy Pro Circuit CLS Kawasaki rider will be a great introduction to the 2011 FIM World Motocross Championship.Having raced against guys like Jeffrey Herlings and Ken Roczen in the past the British rider knows it’s not going to be easy trying to win the 2011 FIM World MX2 Championship. You couldn’t ask for a more exciting battle than Roczen versus Herlings versus Anstie.

Back a few years ago these three riders battled long and hard for European Championship success. It was a time Anstie enjoyed.MXlarge: You seem like a smart, happy guy. I noticed that all three of you guys (Herlings and Roczen included) seem really grown up for rather young guys. Why is that?Anstie: For me I’ve always kept all my areas in life balanced, my fans, my image, my training, my riding. That is something my dad taught me very well. I think I helped Jeffrey a bit with image. I know when I used to go to Holland to race Jeffrey was very angry, and I remember he rode for Cross World and he lost a race and they had a picture of him on the internet and he said stuff like “screw you Cross World” and all this stuff, he was like nine years old and a lot of guys felt that was wrong at that age. I saw him at Bercy (last week) and he is very motivated at what he does, we get on great. I think he’s on a good team and he has good people around him. MXlarge: Jeffrey, Ken and you are all thinkers, you can see it when you guys are on the start grid, and it’s like three old wise men.Anstie: I mean, I think it’s important because you have to be able to accept different situations. That is what I learnt in America. I was thrown in the deep end big time, just turned 16 and riding against guys like Ryan Dungey and all that, people I had looked up to. I had to learn fast and get strong fast. It cost me, I did get injured, but I was the youngest guy in America and I was at times right up there with the top guys.

MXlarge: How is your fitness after your injuries from this year?Anstie: With my fitness I am good. I did a fitness test the other day and I was stronger than the guys from KTM and everyone. My team put me on and they said I probably would be that fit (because he had been out) I flew in from California and didn’t get much sleep. I turned up at the fitness test and they were really happy with my results. I’ve gotten a lot older in the last years. I will be ready for the GP’s I will be strong and I will nearly be 18, so it’s time to go and win some races.MXlarge: It must be exciting that you get to race those two guys again?Anstie: I am very excited, it is something different, my first experience racing the Grand Prix’s and there are a lot of fast guys. I am a really good team with a good bike and it opens all the doors for America as well. To be honest if you ask anyone, to be a World Champion is special and I know the AMA National Motocross is really good, but still it’s cool to call yourself World Champion. I want to win both AMA and FIM and this gives me my chance to race the World Championships.
