Have you ever wondered what it is that draws people to motorcycles? What is it that they love about and are addicted to, with riding? There are veteran riders that have ridden most of their lives, and there are newer riders that have joined the group that loves to see the world from the back of a bike.
Biking has gone through some changes through the decades. When motorcycles were first invented in the late 1800's it was a new way of getting around that was different than horse and buggy, and faster and more exciting than the recently invented bicycle. As the automobile was created and became more and more popular, since it could hold a family, not just one or two people, the motorcycle became more of a recreational vehicle.
In the 50's because of movies bikers were thought of as the bad boys of the road. Then in the 60's Honda came out with an ad campaign that said, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda". This changed the view of bikers and the people next door became bikers too. Today it has evolved to encompass a cross section of life. All kinds of people now ride a motorcycle.
There are the veteran riders, along with the newer riders. Some ride as a way to commute to and from work. There are more and more women riders, who choose to express their individuality in this way. Seniors are riding as a more economical way to enjoy their retirement years, as well as a way to add excitement and adventure to their travels. Young people are riding for the adrenalin rush it is, and also as a more economical way to get around.
No matter what the reasons are a person chooses to ride they all share the same feeling that there is nothing like it. They love the feeling of freedom it gives, it is less confining than a car, and it provides a 360 degree view of the world around them. It is the wind in their face, the sound of the motor, and the open road that stretches out before them.
